There are typically three reasons for incorporating overmoulding into your design:

1. Cables that are going to be used by the public, or clinical technicians who require the connecting joint to be overmoulded, for grip and aesthetics.
2. Cables that are subject to frequent use, connecting and disconnecting regularly, therefore requiring strain relief.
3. Wires that need to be environmentally sealed to maintain an IP rating against moisture or a pressure vacuum to produce an IP-rated seal.
