We design and manufacture bespoke cryogenic cable assemblies for both flight and ground-based applications. Built using our specialist capabilities, these harnesses withstand ultra-low temperatures, vacuum, vibration, and radiation, ensuring reliable operation in the unforgiving environment of space.
With more than 50 years of experience, we have developed innovative methods that guarantee performance even at millikelvin temperatures and over millions of kilometres of travel.
Applications include:
Space-Saving & Weight Reduction
Woven ribbon cables that are lightweight, flexible, and compact. Capable of weaving wires as small as 0.1mm, we can build 100 wires into an assembly measuring just 25.4mm x 0.6mm. We also eliminate bulky feedthrough connectors by sealing ribbon cables directly into the feedthrough.
Vacuum Solutions
We use polyether ether ketone (PEEK), fully compliant with NASA ultra-high vacuum standards. PEEK is radiation-resistant, chemical-resistant, highly durable, and offers very low off-gassing. We also provide in-house vacuum leak testing with automated equipment.
Encapsulation
Using Stycast 2850FT with Catalyst 9 (NASA QPL approved), we encapsulate ribbon cable assemblies for added strain relief, protection, and thermal stability. These encapsulated harnesses have already proven themselves in mission-critical operations to L2 (1.5 million km from Earth).
Large Hadron Collider (LHC)
Supplied over 3,000 miniature assemblies for the ATLAS instrument, and now developing radiation-proof ribbon cables to modernise the system.
James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
Produced harnesses for three of JWST’s four primary instruments, along with assemblies linking instruments and control systems—managing telescope alignment and providing critical temperature data.
ALMA Atacama Array
Delivered power and signal cables for the 66-telescope array in Chile, supporting precision movement in the search for answers about our cosmic origins.
